Triumph and Beauty - from Heartbreak and Tragedy. We received this wonderful Hagi Houhin recently only to find that the back rim had shattered during shipping. Fortunately, our Tea Instructor Sensei Reiko Wake had a friend who could repair it using the "Kintsugi" technique. It's a wonderful functional unique piece of art again.
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer, often dusted with gold, silver or platinum. Rather than joining the broken pieces with camaflouged adhesive, beautiful seams of gold give the ceramic wares a definite one of a kind appearance. Incredible.
